"The Crown Prince of New York cabaret." That's what the The New York Times called Steve Ross some 20 years ago. He retains his title in 2008. In fact, the only change today would be dropping "New York," as in the past decade, Steve Ross has performed around the country and around the world, in every kind of venue, from cabarets and theaters to the Cabaret Convention and Carnegie Hall. And this summer, he comes to Whyte Hall in the Pines!

Steve Ross rose to fame as a cabaret entertainer during his lengthy sojourns at New York's fabled Algonquin Hotel and Ted Hook's Backstage in the late 1970s. His appearances on six continents found him singing at The Ritz in London, the Crillon in Paris, the Imperial Hotel Tokyo, and festivals in Hong Kong, Perth, and Spoleto. He continues to tour in solo concerts, master classes, theatrical engagements and symphonic pops appearances.

Highlights from recent years include engagements at the Caramoor Music Festival in New York, the Stanhope Park Hyatt, and his debut at the Empire Plush Room in San Francisco. The San Francisco Chronicle wrote:

"Attending a Ross performance is like opening a treasure chest of great, often rare, songs. No one performing today is his equal. They just don't make 'em like this anymore." Be it the music of Noel Coward, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, or Stephen Sondheim, Steve Ross will bring to the Pines community his own "quintessence of old-style urbanity." (NY Times)
