Fire Island Pines Refuse Collection

Solid Waste Collection: Mondays (First Monday in April through the Monday following Thanksgiving)
Thursdays (April through September)
Recycling and Bulk: Every Wednesday (Monday during off-season)
Winter Pick-Up: Container on the Dock (December through February)
Holidays: No Collection

Pick-Up Location: Please make sure all items are placed in front of the premises, adjacent to and not more than 5 feet from the nearest public walkway prior to 6am. Please cover containers tightly to discourage deer from causing an unsightly and unhealthy condition.

Put garbage bags in deer-proof, garbage cans with handles that lock securely.

Or

Make sure that garbage bags are enclosed in some kind of structure, shed, or storage bin inaccessible to animals.

All homeowners who do not dispose of household garbage appropriately are subject to fines during on-going summer inspections by the Waste Management Department of the Town of Brookhaven.

Landscaping: All landscaping materials must be placed in sturdy plastic bags. Branches must be bundled and tied. If you have an abundance of brush, call the FIPPOA Office to schedule the services of the community chipper at a cost of $40 per hour.

In addition, it is not permitted to leave brush and debris along Fire Island Boulevard. You must bundle brush in four-foot sections and leave it alongside your garbage cans; Tony’s Barge (631-589-2265) will remove it during Wednesday collections.

Contractor's Debris: must be removed by special agreement; call 631-589-2130. Stacking of wood on public property is illegal.

Recycling: Place the following items in your recycling container (please note that items contaminated with toxic chemicals are not acceptable):

Glass bottles and jars: rinsed clean; all colors; no ceramics, window glass, mirrors, glassware
Metal cans: rinsed clean; labels, caps and lids need not be removed; do not crush; aerosol cans are acceptable with plastic caps removed
Plastic (#1 PETE and #2 HDPE): rinsed clean
Aluminum foil and foil pans: rinsed and crumpled
Newspapers: packed in brown paper grocery bags or tied in bundles with twine; NO plastic bags, plastic cord or wire
Corrugated cardboard cartons: flattened and tied with twine
Mixed low-grade paper (mail, catalogs, color inserts, magazines, envelopes, office paper, books without covers, index cards, NCR paper, phone books): packed in brown paper grocery bags separately from newspapers

Together, we can make The Pines a cleaner and healthier community.
