If your pets go outside:

  • Dogs should be leashed. It is the law.
  • Dogs are not allowed on the beaches at any time. It is the law.
  • Cats should be belled.
  • No animals should be allowed to chase, kill or consume wildlife or birds.

The incidence of deer, dog and cat injuries has increased, due to attacks by unleashed dogs. If anyone sees an unleashed dog, it should be reported to the Suffolk County Police. There are national, state and local laws to protect all animals in our community.

Lyme disease is on the rise again this year, so please examine your pets for ticks regularly. Pet vaccinations should be up to date as well.

Poison Alert
If your pet consumes any wild animal (birds, mice, etc.) that have ingested poison, your pet will be at risk. Be extremely cautious with any household rodenticide. If you must use them at all, follow all directions carefully.

If you wish to volunteer or have any questions, please call 597-PAWS.
